My response to
You know, I took the het-shipping in HBP as JKR's deliberate response to fandom, as well. I'm as straight as it gets, and I still found the "let's pair everyone off, including my resident gay werewolf" to be insulting. I wouldn't say it offended me, except to the extent that Remus/Sirius IS, and JKR seems to not realize that.
As someone who has completed four novels (okay, even if I haven't got them sold yet) I think it's funny that people are saying JKR can't be wrong about her characters. I have on more than one occasion tried to force my characters to do something that was against their will--and I have always regretted it. I get the sense, personally, that the Remus/Tonks relationship was something JKR forced on Remus and Tonks, thereby weakening both of their characterizations in the sixth book. I wonder if they'll go along with it in book seven, and if she wins in the end, how obvious it will be to us that Remus and Tonks neither one wanted to end up that way.
Oh, and for the record, yes, in my opinion, Remus is completely gay. He's not bisexual. He's gay. (I say this having written het!Remus before I became a slasher, but I have never written him as bi. I can see Sirius as bi, certainly, but Remus just doesn't come across that way to me at all.)
